Taylor Swift's Forced Promo

Taylor Swift’s new album “The Life of a Showgirl” has been incredibly artifically promoted via paid articles and placed advertisements. Her new album has gotten quite a negative reaction from many people, including diehard “Swifties”. This reaction has seemingly prompted the restrction of new reviews to sites such as AlbumOfTheYear and Metacritic. This hasn’t detered her from trying to hype up the album with promotions via large platforms, such as Youtube, The Rolling Stone, and even the Google Play Store.

Youtube has placed an advertisement for the ablum into the home page for users, including those with Youtube Premium, completely regardless of interest in Talyor Swift, or even music in general. For 24 hours, The Rolling Stone had completely overhauled the homepage of their website to focus on Taylor Swift and The Life of a Showgirl, the rolling stone is meant to be a news platform, but this is clearly a show of paid advertising rather than impartial journalism.
